Timor-Leste has officially become the 11th member of ASEAN on 26 October 2025, following the signing of the Declaration on its admission during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This milestone opens new opportunities for Timorese people—especially young generations—through stronger regional cooperation in areas such as education, skills development, and employment pathways across Southeast Asia.
As a country with a large youth population, Timor-Leste’s ASEAN membership can help expand access to regional programs, scholarships, professional networks, and cross-border collaboration—supporting a more skilled and globally competitive workforce for the future.
